What's STANAG to do with equipment and climate?

When designing good equipment, also the climate in which it will be used is to be taken into account. Every climate region will have it's own demands on machines and materials. End users may ask for a shelter which is suitable for "Zone A2 according to Stanag 2895" without explaining what that is. You could then read the STANAG 2895 document which is published on the website of NATO: http://www.nato.int/docu/stanag/2895/2895.pdf

This document also of course comes in handy to determine if your exisiting equipment is ready for a specific climate zone ore needs any changes. In short climate zones look like this:
